The ancient character represented the ritual bearing of the Chinese women, the arms hanging down, and crossed over the body. The head was not represented. The shoulders, arms, chest and legs were outlined.
Some see this figure as the ideal woman, kneeling, arms crossed, ready to
submit and serve.
