A Space Without A Goal

Part VI

Intuition is at the heart of inner knowing.

Let go.

The web connects you to people's heads.

This idea is yours.

"We surely stand at the threshold of a great adventure of the human spirit - a new synthesis of knowledge, a potential integration of art and science, a deeper grasp of human psychology, a deepening of the symbolic representations of our existence and feelings as given in religion and culture, the formation of an international order based on cooperation and nonviolent competition. It seems not too much to hope for these things. " - Heinz Pagels

A hyperlink carries you on the wing of a new idea. An idea as much in your head as on the page. You choose it, after all.

"To think is to voyage." - Giles Deleuze and Felix Guattari

This is a made thought of mine. But it lives in you. We're connected, you and I.

It's all about what happens when everything gets mixed up: art, language, our senses, the practice of business, identities, and everything else. When everything's connected. When everything's mixed.

"The central act of the coming era is to connect everything to everything." - Kevin Kelly

When things get mixed, things change.

Dogma goes.

Sayonara, matey.

There is no stopping the process of mixing everything. There is no stopping the mix of the organic and the made.

Organic and made reality. It's all the same.

"The apparent veil between the organic and the manufactured has crumpled to reveal that the two really are, and have always been, of one being." - Kevin Kelly

"God's first creation was the voyage. Then came doubt." - Theodore Angelopoulous' Le Regard de Ulysses

Let go.

The organ of intuition is the body.

"A mind cannot possibly consider anything beyond what it can measure or calculate; without a body it can only consider itself. Without the interruptions of hellos from the eye, ear, tongue, nose, and finger, the evolving mind huddles in the corner picking its navel." - Kevin Kelly

Letting go means doing things beyond the control of the ego. Becoming open-minded.

Open your mind. Get webbed.

No one graduates. Everything is unfinished.

A connection is a lover's call.

The languages of interconnectedness already incorporate a sense of touch. What is our sense of touch, after all?

"Feel free to include anything of mine, but I wouldn't know what specifically to include. Meaning is entirely contextual, as you know. I never know what's going to hit someone's gong." - A phrase volunteered to A Space Without A Goal by John Perry Barlow

"What we're putting together now is the psychological process involved in letting go, to understand the steps we have to go through inside to open up to our fullest spiritual potential." - James Redfield

"Give up the goal of independence. The world does not work that way. The sublime is relational and interdependent; and anyway, your friends want to help you." - Jay Ogilvy

To exist, you must share.

Let go. Connect. Be connected.

The sublime is the organic.

The web is organic.

"Biology always wins in any blending of organic and machine." - Kevin Kelly

"As life evolves it unbinds from the inorganic and interacts more with the organic." - Kevin Kelly

Things tend toward the sublime.

The web is a vacuum.

"What's that sucking sound?" - A phrase volunteered to A Space Without A Goal by John Perry Barlow.

The web is a psychological process. Hyperlinks are psychological.

Everything's connected, everybody.

Good news. Can't force answers on things when everything's connected.

A Space Without A Goal is simply a space that mixes thoughts.

Given how they've behaved until now, there's a good chance the forces of possessiveness are going to lash out hard on the way down.

Possessiveness is the enemy.

All A Space Without A Goal does is connect the thoughts of a growing number of strong thinkers. The people who, between them, have been doing a large part of the thinking related to interconnectedness.

Between them, they've thought us through to interconnectedness. To a change in consciousness. To a collective consciousness. Someone had to do it.

"It's steam engines when it comes steam engine time." - Charles Fort

Know what? Evidence suggests that many of the people thinking about interconnectedness, from whatever angle, are also some of its gentlest souls.

There's a whyfore they got there first.

It's a hip thing, interconnectedness.

Chaos is good for you.

"You have to decide to have the courage to look foolish." - Karl Pribram

"An aphorism on aphorisms: they are the mark of a promiscuous mind. An aphorist avoids philosophy as a roue avoids marriage; he is afraid to commit himself." - Randall Reid

A Space Without A Goal: scriptus interruptus. :-)

"To write by fragments: the fragments are then so many stones on the perimeter of the circle; I spread myself around: my whole little universe in crumbs; at the center, what?" - Roland Barthes

"It is enough to keep beginning." - Jay Ogilvy

Make it up as you go along.

Life is the subject of an experience, not an examination.

Live rather than follow.

Appreciate rather than manipulate.

Choose flexibility rather than fixity when you can.

"Get out of whatever cage you're in." - John Cage

"The world being a mind can change its mind." - John Cage

"Poets down through the ages, and saints and so forth, have advised inactivity. And we haven't listened." - John Cage

"There's an unwritten law among mushroom lovers, and in Germany, I think it holds: that whoever "sees" a mushroom owns it, no matter what land it's on." - John Cage

"Information is intrinsically sacrificial." - Jay Ogilvy

Experience subverts ownership.

"Ephemeral experiences cannot be accumulated in the same way that wheat can be stored in a silo." - Jay Ogilvy

"The self reflected in the mediated sublime is an artful creation of a life that shapes and fashions symbols as if they were reality. In a symbolic economy, symbols are as real as it gets." - Jay Ogilvy

"I'm convinced that all importance is overestimated and far more temporal than we like to think." - A phrase volunteered to A Space Without A Goal by John Perry Barlow

"Everything has a fluctuating value." - Robert Anton Wilson

"The heavens and all below them,
Earth and her creatures,
All change,
And we, part of creation,
Also must suffer change."
- Ovid

It's all about the shift from living life according to the rationalities of a material world, to living life according to the rationalities of the sublime.

We cannot protect ourselves from the truth.

"Art as life lived in the imagination is the great archetype that rears itself up at the end of history." - Terence McKenna

The Simpsons Halloween episode, 1995. Very funny.

"The center is everywhere, not in any one spot." - Allen Ginsberg

"My hunch is that consciousness is a non-local function of the universe as a whole, and our brains are only local transceivers. As a matter of fact, it's a very strong hunch, but I'm not going to dogmatize about it." - Robert Anton Wilson

Nothing is guaranteed.

"Werden zu sich." - Hegel
